AAF Sacramento

Our Purpose

The Professional Development Committee was created to help the Sac Ad Club bridge the gap between: agency/company owners, students, in-house agencies, and independent creatives for the purpose of building a relationship for talent exposure (portfolio and resume postings), mentorship and possibly employment.

 
 
 

Who We Serve

Students

Our goal with the student population in our region is to create an educational and networking events, and to advance our outreach efforts by growing our database of students.

Independent Creatives

Connect with Independent Creatives (Freelancers) in order to bring them out of the shadows and into the light to build the available talent pool in the market and to encourage their involvement in Ad Club and Ad Club award competitions.

Agencies

We want to connect with agencies/industry professionals to commit in supporting the creative students of the Sacramento Area through the development of an internship/mentorship program, while introducing them to the Independent Creative community.

ADVOCATING FOR STUDENT INVOLVEMENT IN THE SACRAMENTO CREATIVE COMMUNITY

Connect with college classes/clubs, to give awarness of the importance of growing your creative community through AAF to help secure a job or intership in the career field they are seeking.

ENCOURAGING & HELPING STUDENTS ENTER SUBISSIONS TO THE AAF AMERICAN ADVERTISING AWARDS

The American Adverting Awards aka “The Addys” are seen as the Grammy’s but for creatives. It’s a national 3-tier competition, that starts of the local level. This competition is not only for professionals, there is a division for students. To also recogize the incredible work that is produced as a creative student.

CREATION OF EDUCATIONAL NETWORKING EVENTS FOR ALL CREATIVE COLLEGE STUDENTS IN THE SACRAMENTO AREA

Organizing events such as agency tours, workshops and networking events to help students connect with creative professionals and further enhance the skillsets required in their careers.

GROWING THE STUDENT CREATIVE NETWORK ACROSS COLLEGES & THE CREATIVE COMMUNITY

Connecting with students, professors and agency/company professionals to build an active community where all can be able to rely and work with each other.

National Student Advertising Competition
The National Student Advertising Competition is the premier college advertising competition that provides more than 2,000 college students the real-world experience of creating a strategic advertising/marketing/media campaign for a corporate client. 

Our Team

ALEJANDRA GUTIERREZ, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CO-CHAIR

Alejandra started her creative career by redesigning a website while working as a student assistant at CSUS in 2013. Wanting to implement her design, she self taught HTML/CSS with basic JavaScript and thus began her path to the stressfully adventurous world of advertising. She left the structure of a state university to attend art school where she was able to accomplish much more than finesse her web design & development skills. Her biggest professional support has come from the people she has encountered during the years in building her career, with most being a part of AAF Sacramento Ad Club. She knows that many students aren’t privy to the opportunities she encountered, so she joined the Sac Ad Club board in 2017 to help the student creatives in the Sacramento area connect and grow as professionals.

DREW NEWBOLD, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CO-CHAIR

For over 20 years, Drew has honed his craft in the Sacramento ad community, working for some of the biggest creative agencies in town, either as an employee or as a white labeled mercenary. He also did a stint as the Creative Director for Entercom Radio, overseeing a creative team responsible for the visual branding needs for 6 of the largest radio stations in Sacramento, as well as event branding and marketing. As the Creative Director and Co-Founder of Mercenary Creative Group, Drew joined the ad club to make a difference in the lives of students and professionals alike that are looking to connect with other like minded people and agencies for career development and mentorship opportunities. As a member of the board he has become a huge advocate for joining the the ad club.

MARIA MANZUR, STUDENT OUTREACH CHAIR

Born and raised in the Sunshine State and FIU Public Relations and Communications grad who’s recently perfected the art of lasagna. Bulldogs, craft beer watching football (PHINS UP!) are a few of my favorite things. When I’m not on the lookout for cute dogs, I’m usually volunteering at community events (pre-COVID). I’m an Account Manager at RSE since 2018 and this is how I got connected with the Sac Ad Club! I have been involved with the Sac Ad Club for about two years now and have assisted in some of the student outreach events. I am excited to be able to share my experiences/skills with students who are interested in joining the advertising world!
